A critical first step towards a greener environment is to educate the next generation about the importance of nature and environmental protection. Recognising the concept of “learning through playing”, we have been spreading the message of “We Care for Nature” among children through the Playright Children’s Play Association since 2009.

2011 Highlights
To CONNECT children and their families with nature

Playright – Environmental Play Project

Melco and Playright’s 3-year Environmental Play project supported by The Community Chest-Melco Green Project Fund has enabled nearly 12,000 participants to play freely and interact in a natural environment.

"Together with Melco Volunteers, we hung a rainbow parachute on trees and transformed the surrounding environment into a rainbow campsite with hammocks and swings. It helped me get closer to nature on a fun-filled and unforgettable journey."
Ashley, age 11, participant in Playright Environmental Play Project family trips since 2009

WWF – Low-carbon Office Operations Program (LOOP)
Our Corporate Office first participated in the LOOP Labelling Scheme in 2011 and won a Gold Label recognising our contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

WWF – Earth Hour
We have been a keen supporter of WWF’s Earth Hour for four consecutive years. This year, we sponsored Earth Hour and joined with our Macau properties City of Dreams, Altira and Mocha and our Hong Kong restaurant Jumbo Kingdom to switch lights off for an hour.

Afforestation and Reforestation on Degraded Lands in Northwest Sichuan
We supported this internationally certified carbon offset project to advance the protection of the natural habitat of diverse wildlife species in the Northwest Sichuan reserve. The project created job opportunities for more than 12,000 local farmers.

2012 Goals

To accelerate the growth of our sponsored children's play projects and build long-term community engagement

To identify more potential energy and water saving initiatives for our operations and continue our support of environmental conservation
To strengthen our Green Office Practices by continually monitoring carbon emissions, recycling and waste reduction at our corporate offices
